EZCaption 6.0 -- Rich Media Captions

If you are looking for a way to caption rich media presentations, EZCaption can help.

When you install the software, the Shared Documents folder on your computer will have a new folder called EZCaption. In that folder is another folder called Media, which contains a file called intro.wmv. The file intro.wmv is a short, captioned video (make sure captioning is on in your Windows Media Player) that was prepared using EZCaption 6.0. The script (intro.ezc) is also saved in the EZCaption | Media folder.

To produce the caption data for intro.wmv, we followed thse steps:

  1. Save it in one of the EZCaption supported formats. We used WMV (Windows Media Player), but files for QuickTime, RealPlayer, and Flash may be used as well.
  2. Commit the script for your video to a text file or word processor document.
  3. Time the script by pressing F6.
  4. Parse the script by pressing F9 or F10 (search for 'parse' in the program's built-in Help utility).
  5. Play the video while using Train Here (F4)
  6. Press the SPACE bar each time a new line of captions is to be fed.
  7. When training is completed (you may wish to save your script), press F5.
  8. Select the template (we selected SMITemplate)
Note: The templates are stored in your computer's Shared Documents folder in a folder called EZCaption | Templates.
  9. Select the Media file and set the location of the Destination file along with other settings. Typically, the destination can be the same folder the media file is located in.
  10. When you press the OK button, your computer will only take a few seconds to create the caption files that correspond to your video (in the case of our example, EZCaption created two files in the same folder as intro.wmv: intro.smi, and intro.wvx.
